Leaflet Print-Ready Checklist: What to Check Before Ordering

A final check before ordering can prevent a simple artwork mistake from being repeated across a whole print run. Use this checklist after your leaflet design is finished and before you upload the PDF.

Match the file to your order

Confirm the finished size, printed sides and quantity. Flat leaflets and folded leaflets are different products, so choose the correct calculator. If the leaflet is double-sided, include both sides in the correct file arrangement for the product.

Check bleed and safe margins

Where a background or image reaches the edge, extend it into the bleed area specified by the product guide. Keep text, logos and contact details safely inside the trimmed edge. Use the product template rather than adding an arbitrary white border.

Inspect the exported PDF

  • Check the finished page size and page count.
  • Check that images look suitable at their intended printed size.
  • Make sure fonts are embedded or outlined where appropriate.
  • Follow the product guidance for colour setup.
  • Open the final PDF and check it again after export.

Proofread the details customers will use

Check phone numbers, email and web addresses, prices, offer dates and event information. Test QR codes with a phone. Ask another person to read the final PDF if possible; a familiar design can make a small error easy to miss.

Choose paper for the leaflet’s job

Consider how the leaflet will be handled and whether anyone needs to write on it. Compare the paper and finishing options in the live calculator. If you need advice about the specification or the print suitability of your file, contact SM Print before placing the order.
